Decide what Belgium needs to do for you

Belgium can be a home for a family, a European business location or one part of a group operating internationally. Those choices have different consequences. An entrepreneur moving to Brussels while keeping a foreign company needs a personal-residence and company-management review; an existing Belgian owner expanding abroad needs a foreign-operations and CFC analysis.

The practical attraction should be tested alongside the cost: the household’s work and schools, actual business connections, transport and the ability to maintain the proposed structure. Personal tax rates, social contributions and the 2026 investment-gains rules make it particularly important to model the whole arrangement before committing to a move or an exit.

Four separate permissions and tax questions

The professional card concerns self-employed activity; the single permit concerns qualifying employment and stay. Neither a company registration nor a property purchase by itself answers the immigration question. Tax residence follows its own factual rules and can begin before a business achieves profitability.

Use current rules for a current move

The financial capital-gains law is enacted, not merely announced. It applies from 1 January 2026 and includes entry valuations and an individual departure mechanism. Meanwhile, the family-reunification law has old/new rules running alongside each other during a transition, and the employer high-salary contribution threshold changed in July 2026.

These are decision-relevant changes. A plan based on a 2019 tax guide, a pre 2025 family checklist or an undated social-charge percentage can produce a materially wrong budget. Each linked guide identifies the rule, date and evidence limits.

Choose the region and commute before the address

Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent offer different ways to build a Belgian base. Compare the actual work location, school language and admissions, housing quality and station access. Brussels-Capital is a region with multiple municipalities, so a Brussels-wide cost estimate cannot identify the tax rate or administrative office for a particular home.

Brussels Airport has a railway station beneath the terminal and direct links to several major Belgian cities. Check the live journey planner when comparing addresses. The city guides below cover neighbourhoods, lease rules, registration, schools and healthcare, alongside arrival checklists and local perspectives.

Turn the analysis into a workable sequence

Prepare a single record of current residence, citizenships, family members, business ownership, income and asset values. Identify the desired outcome and the transactions already under consideration. A sale, a new employer, school start dates or a family member approaching 18 can change the correct sequence.

Our role is to connect the outgoing-country analysis with Belgian arrival and implementation: the structure, immigration, company administration and banking. Where specialist local work or independent management is needed, define that provider’s responsibilities explicitly. Start with an inquiry that gives the team enough facts to assess the fit and the work required.
