Plan the work in the right order
Official decision periods start only when the relevant file is accepted. Preparation, appointments, document checks and card production add time.

Start with the account’s job
A household account for salary and bills, a company operating account and an investment custody relationship solve different problems. Prepare expected currencies, counterparties, countries and transaction sizes before comparing providers. A business receiving regulated or higher-risk payments should explain that activity early, rather than describing it as generic consulting.
The account must also fit the legal structure. A sole trader and a separate company are not the same depositor. Signatories, beneficial owners and the people controlling payments should match the company documents and real management arrangements. Opening an account is not proof that a structure has been approved for tax or immigration purposes.
Prepare a coherent source-of-funds file
As a practical application pack, assemble identity and tax-residence information, address evidence, company and ownership records, the commercial explanation, expected payments and the origin of initial funding. For proceeds from a company sale, investments or crypto activity, preserve the transaction trail and supporting tax records. The exact documents and acceptance decision belong to the chosen institution.
A new arrival may still be completing a municipal address check or residence card. Plan which documents are available at each stage and whether the institution will consider that stage. We do not promise remote opening, acceptance, a fixed opening time or an account with a named bank without checking the current case.
Deposit protection follows the institution and depositor
The Belgian Guarantee Fund describes protection up to €100,000 per person per establishment for eligible deposits. Several accounts at one institution do not each receive a fresh limit. A foreign-bank branch may belong to a different scheme, and an investment’s market value is not protected simply because a bank sold it.
For a business operated through a separate eligible legal person, the Fund distinguishes the company’s protection from the owner’s personal deposits. A sole trader’s professional and personal balances do not create separate people. Check the actual legal bank, scheme, product and depositor eligibility before concentrating operating cash.
Foreign accounts remain part of the Belgian file
Belgian residents holding foreign accounts must report them to the National Bank’s Central Point of Contact. Keep account identifiers, country and institution details and update closure or ownership changes. The registry obligation and annual income declaration are separate tasks.
An overseas broker or bank can be commercially useful without changing residence taxation. The 2026 capital-gains rules can require records across intermediaries, including cost, year-end 2025 values, arrival values, disposals and tax withheld. Build that reporting workflow when the account is opened rather than reconstructing it after a sale.
Where implementation helps
Our banking work starts with the intended transactions and the actual structure. We can help organise the information, assess possible jurisdictions and providers, and coordinate the account application with the wider plan. The institution retains its approval discretion. Send the business model, ownership, residence and payment needs through the inquiry form so the team can assess the work.
