An entry card is not the full comparison
Compare the permitted activity, up-front funding, continuing performance, family scope, tax consequences and eventual renewal. The cheapest application fee can be irrelevant if the route does not authorise the business or family plan. Immigration residence, tax residence, permanent residence and citizenship need separate columns in the decision.
The 2026 reforms abolish the former family occupation permit category; that does not abolish ordinary dependent applications under the remaining routes. The new government-to-government technical occupation category and digital travel-authorisation provisions require commencement by proclamation. This guide does not represent them as operating merely because the Act contains enabling text.
Compare ordinary twenty-year PRP routes
The current EDB summary requires five qualifying years for the ordinary investor, professional, self-employed and retired routes. It sets higher ongoing conditions than the initial permit. A qualifying file still requires an application, and a 20-year immigration permission is not nationality.
| Prior route | Published ordinary PRP condition after five qualifying years |
|---|---|
| Investor | Turnover MUR 15m each year for five consecutive years, or MUR 75m aggregate |
| Professional | Basic salary at least MUR 400,000 monthly for five years; application timing condition |
| Self-employed | Annual business income MUR 3m for five consecutive years, or MUR 15m aggregate; application timing condition |
| Retired | Aggregate USD 200,000 transfers over five years |
Property and Golden Visa should stay separate
Property-linked residence depends on qualifying ownership and the relevant scheme’s rules. The 2026 Golden Visa creates a separate USD 1m business-investment path toward PRP, excluding residential acquisitions under EDB schemes from that investment condition. Neither should be sold as an automatic naturalisation product.
The residency articles below set out the actual evidence, official milestones, fees and known uncertainties. We can compare them with your business and family position before money is committed, then coordinate the selected implementation.
