The financial condition

The applicant must be at least fifty. Current guidance requires evidence of USD 24,000 available funds, an initial USD 2,000 transfer within sixty days of permit issuance, and thereafter at least USD 2,000 monthly or USD 24,000 annually. Keep certified bank evidence rather than treating a property purchase as a substitute for the transfer requirement.

These amounts are the immigration financial condition, not a published total living-cost estimate. Budget accommodation, family needs, private medical insurance or care, transport and currency risk separately. The source and tax character of the transferred money still matter.

What retirement permission permits

The current route guidance describes a ten-year residence permit, renewable subject to conditions. It is not ordinary authorisation to take employment. Passive investment can be possible, but paid executive functions, salary and business activity require a separate work/occupation assessment.

The same OP/retired dependent framework permits qualifying spouse/opposite-sex common-law partner, unmarried non-working children not over 24, and parents, through separate applications. The household’s medical evidence and the duration of each permission should be checked together.

Tax and the later permanent-residence test

Retirement status does not, by itself, make every foreign pension tax-free. Determine residence, source, treaty allocation, exemption and remittance for the specific pension or investment stream. Keep existing capital distinguishable from current income.

The government application fee is USD 50 and the published ten-year permit fee USD 1,000, plus dependent and ancillary costs. The ordinary PRP route after five qualifying years requires USD 200,000 of aggregate transfers over those years. Five years of only the minimum USD 24,000 annual transfers totals USD 120,000 and therefore does not meet that higher PRP funding condition.
