A practical base requires more than a residence card
Czechia can offer a useful combination for an internationally active household: access to the EU single market, established cities and a central European location. It remains a Czech-koruna economy. That matters when revenue is in euros or dollars while wages, rent and tax payments are in crowns. A location decision should therefore include currency exposure, the actual work you will perform and how your family will settle.
For a business owner, the key distinction is between moving yourself, moving part of the business and creating a new Czech operation. These are different projects. Your existing foreign company may acquire Czech tax exposure if its management moves with you, while a Czech subsidiary has its own accounting, payroll and VAT responsibilities. A digital-nomad admission is not a tax ruling.
Our planning starts with those relationships: the countries you are leaving and entering, the entities you control, how money reaches you and the people whose permission or schooling depends on the move. The right result is a structure that supports your intended life and can be operated consistently.
Find the route that matches the activity
| Issue | What matters |
|---|---|
| Qualifying Czech skilled job | EU Blue Card: qualification, salary and contract conditions. |
| Other Czech employment | Employee Card or an applicable free-access/work-permit route; the job and residence conditions still need checking. |
| Genuine independent Czech business | Business long-stay visa and subsequent residence; a trade licence alone does not authorise residence. |
| Eligible remote IT/marketing professional | Digital Nomad programme: nationality, profession, income and filing criteria. |
| Joining a resident spouse or parent | Family category depends on the sponsor and the relationship, including adult-child restrictions. |
| EU/EEA/Swiss household | Use the free-movement branch rather than a third-country work card. |
Read the personal and business position together
Ordinary personal residence brings worldwide income into scope. The headline personal rates do not show social and health contributions, taxable benefits, dividend withholding or the effect of a particular investment exemption. The 2026 securities and ownership-interest exemption change makes transaction dates particularly important; crypto has a different cap.
Companies generally face 21% corporate income tax. A company managed from Czechia can be resident even when incorporated abroad. CFC, transfer-pricing and permanent-establishment analysis answer separate questions, so one favourable result does not settle the others. Use the tax guides to build a question list before transferring contracts or assets.
Choose a location around the week you actually live
Prague is the first place many international households investigate, particularly when airport access and a wide choice of employers or services matter. Brno, Ostrava and Plzeň deserve separate consideration where a particular employer, university or operating business creates the local connection. Treat them as a shortlist to visit, not interchangeable low-cost versions of the capital.
Compare the commute, school language, access to a regular doctor and winter routine before selecting a lease. A central tourist district can work very differently from a residential neighbourhood. Ask for the full annual housing budget, including service advances and later reconciliation, and obtain accommodation documents that the immigration authority will accept.
Turn the comparison into an implementation plan
A useful initial inquiry includes citizenships, present tax residence, family composition, intended work, business ownership, income sources and target timing. That lets us identify whether the main task is immigration coordination, a cross-border structure, banking, or a combination.
Where local professional work is required, the scope and responsible provider must be agreed before engagement. We can help analyse the interactions and coordinate agreed implementation; this guide does not represent a pre-approved immigration or tax outcome.
- Map the current structure and intended activities.
- Compare viable residence routes and family treatment.
- Confirm tax and insurance consequences in both countries.
- Sequence housing, documents, application and operational changes.
