Eligibility & suitability
Who can qualify
- Genuine business activity with the necessary registrations and evidence.
- Applicant eligible to file at an accepting competent post.
Restrictions & unsuitable cases
- Company formation treated as automatic residence.
- Passive savings alone without a qualifying business purpose.
- Consular application without an applicable exception where any citizenship is Russian or Belarusian, including dual nationality. This does not classify every in-country application as prohibited.
The process, step by step

Confirm the business, licensing, consular jurisdiction and quota availability.

Business evidence has to support the intended stay
The business long-stay visa is for a third-country national undertaking business activities in Czechia. A trade licence, company role or other relevant registration supports the purpose, but possession of a registration document does not itself grant residence or approve every activity.
Confirm the activity, any professional licence, the intended customers and where the work will be done. The authority may ask for explanations and evidence that the stated purpose is credible. A company formed solely to produce a visa document is a different proposition from a business with customers, funding and an implementation plan.
Russian or Belarusian citizenship, including dual nationality, requires a qualifying consular exception before a visa/residence application can be accepted. See the residency guide for the application-specific exceptions.
Available funds are not a government investment fee
The official evidence-of-funds page gives the business-visa requirement as fifty times the subsistence minimum, currently CZK 156,500 using CZK 3,130. This is evidence of available support funds; it is not a non-refundable donation or the government’s fee for granting the visa.
The personal support file is separate from the capital, working cash and tax budget needed by the business. Show funds in a form that will be accessible during the stay and prepare an explanation of their origin. A promising future invoice should not casually be substituted for the required available-funds evidence.
Consular availability is part of eligibility planning
Applications are ordinarily submitted personally at the competent diplomatic mission. Some posts have business-visa quotas. Verify whether the post can accept the application and the applicant’s right to use it before spending on a fixed move date.
The published processing period is 90 days, or 120 for particularly complex cases, and can stop where law permits. That period does not include all document preparation or appointment waiting. Visa validity including extensions is at most one year; a subsequent long-term residence application has its own requirements.
Build a budget with separate categories
| Item | What the figure means |
|---|---|
| Business long-stay visa fee | CZK 5,000 consular charge, with country-specific exceptions checked at the post. |
| Support funds | CZK 156,500 under the currently published formula; not a fee. |
| Insurance | Required cover before visa collection unless an exception applies; premium varies. |
| Business setup | Registration, premises, accounts and operating cash are additional. |
| Professional work | Quoted scope for analysis, documents and coordination; no approval promise. |
Permission, healthcare and business taxation remain separate
A spouse or child needs a suitable family route. Ordinary long-term reunification may depend on the sponsor’s residence history; a family-purpose visa does not automatically provide the same employment rights. Review adult children and each person’s insurance rather than assuming one family package supplies identical treatment.
A business visa does not create a special income-tax exemption. Czech personal residence, social and health participation, VAT and a company’s management can all matter. We can help evaluate those interactions and coordinate the agreed implementation after the responsible local roles and scope are confirmed.
