Start with the payments the account must handle
A Czech account can be useful for local wages, rent, taxes and business payments. Start with those needs: currencies, expected counterparties, number and size of transfers, cash requirements and the people who need access. A personal household account, a Czech operating-company account and a foreign company’s account are different applications.
The Czech koruna is the domestic currency. Compare conversion spreads and transfer charges as well as the advertised monthly fee. A euro-denominated revenue stream does not eliminate a crown-denominated payroll or tax bill. Decide how much currency risk the operating cash balance should carry.
Eligibility is not identical to acceptance
Banks generally choose contractual counterparties, subject to specific statutory exceptions. An EU consumer’s right to a basic payment account is a distinct framework with conditions and lawful refusal grounds; it does not guarantee a business account, credit facility, premium product or unlimited payment activity.
For a foreign founder, the bank will need to understand the entity, beneficial owners, controllers, commercial purpose and money flows. Incorporation is not proof that the proposed relationship fits a bank’s risk appetite. Confirm the actual institution and product before relying on it for a closing or the first payroll.
Make the onboarding story easy to verify
Prepare a consistent evidence file rather than sending a folder of unexplained documents. Identity and address records should match the application. For a business, add the registry extract, constitutional documents, ownership chain, authority to operate the account and a plain explanation of customers, suppliers and expected countries.
Contracts, invoices and records showing how initial funds were accumulated may support the explanation. The bank decides the exact documents, translations, certification and attendance needed; this is a preparation checklist, not a representation that every bank accepts remote onboarding or the same proof.
| Evidence group | Preparation task |
|---|---|
| Identity and tax residence | Current IDs, addresses, tax residences and identification numbers. |
| Entity and ownership | Registry records, ownership chain and beneficial-owner information. |
| Authority | Who may open, sign, approve and transact. |
| Activity | Website, business model, contracts and counterparties. |
| Funds | Credible history for capital and expected inflows. |
| Operations | Currencies, transaction sizes, users and approval controls. |
Deposit cover is measured per depositor and institution
Eligible deposits are generally covered up to the equivalent of EUR 100,000 per depositor per bank or credit union, aggregating the covered balances at that institution. A different account number or currency does not create a fresh limit. Special temporary-high-balance protection has specified events and conditions.
Check which legal entity holds the money and which guarantee scheme applies, especially with a foreign-bank branch. Securities, investment losses and an e-money balance are not automatically the same thing as an insured bank deposit. Read the product’s depositor-information document rather than assuming every financial app has bank protection.
Keep the account aligned with the real structure
Assign access and payment authority carefully. A founder’s personal access to funds should not contradict a structure that relies on independent foreign management. Keep business and private flows explainable, retain invoices and update the bank when ownership, tax residence or the activity materially changes.
Account opening also does not establish tax residence or immigration permission. Keep the bank’s self-certification consistent with the country analyses and update it when the facts change. A reliable account supports an implemented structure; it does not replace one.
Make the inquiry specific
Tell us whether the account is personal or business, where the owners and managers live, the activity and currencies, expected turnover and counterparties, and any previous refusals. We can assess the banking requirement within the wider plan and confirm the available scope before an engagement is accepted.
Government, bank, translation and professional charges should be distinguished in a quote. This country guide does not promise that a particular Czech institution will accept your case or that a provider relationship has already been agreed.
