Eligibility & suitability

Who can qualify

  • Owners establishing a real licensed business whose selected authority supports an investor, partner or appropriate company-sponsored residence application.
  • Applicants able to complete the authority’s identity, medical, insurance and immigration checks.

Restrictions & unsuitable cases

  • A company registration without a qualifying residence sponsorship arrangement.
  • Treating all free zones, mainland licences and offshore holding companies as interchangeable.
  • Choosing the visa before confirming whether the licence covers the intended activity.

From business choice to residence handover

Agree the authority and route first. The steps below show the dependencies; published service targets do not include every preparation stage.

01Define the activity and scopeBefore committing to a licence+

Describe ownership, business activity, customer locations, banking needs and who will move. Agree the proposed licence, residence category and responsibilities.

02Prepare and register the businessDMCC example: typically around 10 working days; documentation and approval dependent+

DMCC’s formation process uses pre-approval, payment and signing, an office solution and electronic licensing. Ownership and business records depend on the selected formation type.

03Apply for the owner’s residenceAfter company and immigration prerequisites+

Confirm investor, partner or employment eligibility for the chosen company and the timing for that exact category. The cited DMCC twenty-working-day indication concerns its employee service. Inside-country activation and overseas entry have different dependencies.

04Complete medical and identity stepsIn-country appointments and authority processing+

Complete the medical, insurance and identity requirements. RAKEZ requires biometrics for first-time residence applicants; existing Emirates ID holders follow a different submission path. Distinguish issuance from physical ID delivery.

05Coordinate family and handoverWhen sponsor requirements are met+

Complete separately scoped family applications, then record permit and licence expiries, absence conditions and the administration responsibilities.

Choose the business and residence route together

Start with the activity you will conduct, the clients you serve, who owns the company and where you intend to live. Those choices determine the licensing and residence work to assess. This guide uses specific free-zone processes to make the sequence concrete; it does not turn one authority’s requirements into a UAE-wide package.

DecisionWhat to establish before paying
Business activityLicence permissions, regulated activities, customer markets and any additional approvals.
Company structureOwners, directors, authorised signatories, office requirements and supporting records.
Residence routeInvestor, partner or employment basis supported by the chosen company and authority.
HouseholdEvery applicant, relationship, age, documents and sponsor requirements.
Continuing costsLicensing, premises, residence renewal, accounting and separately scoped support.

Two authority examples: RAKEZ and DMCC

RAKEZ offers investor/partner residence for shareholders of a registered company. Its published sequence covers entry approval or activation, medical fitness, Emirates ID and biometrics. It states that the holder must return within 180 days of departure.

DMCC’s residence-service guidance requires an active company licence and establishment card. Its general guidance identifies the investor route for a sole shareholder and the partner route for a shareholder with at least AED 50,000 in shares. These are DMCC conditions, not a universal minimum investment for UAE residency.

Build a complete setup budget

Ask for a written schedule distinguishing authority charges, third-party costs and Offshore Capitalist’s work. An advertised licence price rarely describes every dependency of a household move.

Cost componentHow it should be scoped
Company and licenceSelected activity, entity, office arrangement, visa allocation and renewal basis.
Immigration and identityOwner’s permit, entry or status change, medical, Emirates ID and insurance.
Family applicationsEach dependant’s application, documentary work and relevant sponsor requirements.
Professional workAdvice, document coordination and local filing assistance expressly included in the proposal.
Ongoing operationsAccounting, tax filings, licence and immigration renewals, premises and agreed administration.

What the authority’s timing actually covers

DMCC describes company setup as typically around ten working days, dependent on documentation and approvals. Its separate New Employee Residence Visa service lists twenty working days or less. That employee-service target is not a confirmed timetable for every shareholder’s investor or partner application; ask DMCC to confirm the selected category before making travel commitments.

RAKEZ’s investor/partner service advertises visa and Emirates ID issuance in six working days for Standard or three for VIP. Its table lists physical ID delivery separately at two to three working days. These are that authority’s service indications: they do not establish the timing for company formation, overseas evidence, entry arrangements or a complete household relocation.

Family applications follow their own rules

GDRFA Dubai’s family-entry checklist includes a certified marriage contract, attested birth certificate and, for a partner, the partnership agreement. Its conditions refer to a partner’s AED 48,000 share and sponsorship of sons up to age 25. This is the family-sponsored entry service, not a complete residence-permit checklist or DMCC’s shareholder visa threshold.

Map the household before filing: whose relationship is recognised, which evidence must be attested, each child’s age, the sponsor’s status and the relevant accommodation or financial requirement. The principal’s approval does not complete the family’s applications.

Keep the residence permission and tax plan connected

A residence permit is one input to the wider plan. Review the departure country, where your home and interests remain, your time in the UAE, business management and income categories. Domestic tax residence and treaty access have their own conditions; a visa alone is not the complete analysis.

Which service fits your objective?

Company formation with residency is the relevant inquiry when the business itself is part of the plan. Golden Visa support concerns eligibility for a separate long-term residence category. Remote-work residence concerns an overseas work arrangement. Compare the actual objective before buying a setup that creates unnecessary maintenance.
