Who Armenia is likely to suit
Armenia can suit founders who want an operating base in Yerevan, people with Armenian family connections and households prepared to build a local life. Its residence, citizenship and business rules create several different routes; none is interchangeable with a low-tax label. A household’s work, language, schooling and travel needs should lead the choice of city.
Start with four separate decisions
Choose a lawful residence route; establish the personal tax position; determine how the business operates; and arrange banking and day-to-day services. A visa-free visitor, a business owner and a resident employee can have different rights even when they share an address.
| Decision | Key question | Where to continue |
|---|---|---|
| Residence | Purpose and documentary eligibility | Residency guide |
| Tax | Days, vital interests and whole-year treatment | Personal tax guide |
| Business | Company versus entrepreneur, regime and PE | Corporate tax guide |
| Family life | School, healthcare and airport access | Yerevan and Gyumri city guides |

An enacted residence change begins on 1 November 2026
The main reform moves applications onto a digital framework and changes eligibility and status categories. It is enacted, but the old and new systems must not be mixed. Applications filed before the operative change retain the transition treatment specified by law. A saved appointment or an intention to apply is not the same as a filed application.
The tax picture is broader than 20% salary tax
Resident individuals generally face worldwide taxation, with separate investment-income rules. Ordinary company profit tax is 18% and VAT is 20%; special business regimes are conditional. Pension, defence levy and phased health-insurance payments change employee take-home pay.
Family and nationality connections can change the route
Armenian origin, an Armenian spouse or parent, and qualifying residence history are distinct nationality grounds. Citizenship is not automatically issued because a person bought property or registered a business. Dual nationality is permitted by Armenia, while the other nationality’s rules remain relevant.
Country facts and travel
The Armenian dram is the national currency. The government country profile reports 3,076,200 people at 1 January 2025. Elevation makes the climate vary greatly: a hot Yerevan summer and a colder highland winter require different housing decisions. Zvartnots is the principal Yerevan air gateway; Shirak provides an alternative network near Gyumri.
Choose a city before choosing a lease
Yerevan concentrates national services, businesses and international connectivity. Gyumri offers a different scale, cultural setting and winter experience. A residence application needs a workable address and documentation, but the cheapest available lease may be a poor fit for work, school or healthcare.
Turn the research into a coordinated plan
A useful move plan links the departure-country analysis, Armenian residence route, income classification, business operations and family arrangements. Our inquiry can establish which parts you need help coordinating. The information library describes routes more broadly than our selected service catalogue.
