Resolve entry and work permission before travel
Visa requirements depend on citizenship, passport and in some cases other residence documents. Consult the MFA list for your exact case. Entry permission does not by itself confer a right to work or guarantee a residence application. Plan the entry route of every family member separately.
Select the applicable residence system
As of 14 October 2026, the November reform is still ahead. Existing business, work, study and family grounds have their own current evidence requirements. For a later application, use the new eligibility and digital process rather than an old consular checklist.
Prepare civil documents before leaving
Passports, birth and marriage records and proof of a qualifying ground may need apostille or legalisation and notarised Armenian translation. Different issuing countries use different authentication routes. Allow document preparation and appointment availability separately from the authority’s decision period.
Decide the household address and city
Choose housing around school and workplace access, heating and airport needs. Make sure the landlord can supply the evidence needed for registration and the residence file. A tourism booking is not a substitute for a long-term housing arrangement or a child’s admission record.
Map the first tax year before transferring assets
The day-count and vital-interests tests can create whole-year Armenian residence. Review a planned dividend, share disposal or foreign-business change before assuming income earned before arrival remains outside Armenian tax. Keep purchase and foreign-tax evidence available.
Set up employment and healthcare together
An employer needs the worker’s identity, status and pension/insurance coverage. Public insurance phase-in, private insurance and access to a chosen clinic are separate matters. Obtain written confirmation of coverage for each family member instead of assuming a resident worker automatically insures the whole family.
Banking and the first operating month
Prepare source-of-funds and business-purpose evidence for the selected bank. Keep access to a working payment method while onboarding proceeds. Companies should arrange tax-service access and identify who will file payroll and company returns before the first salary or client receipt.
Calendar the follow-up obligations
Keep the permit expiry, renewal window, changes of address or family status and travel history together. Under the enacted new system, specified long absences carry notification requirements; that is different from a simple universal minimum-stay rule.
