Choose the account around the activity

A personal living account, company operating account and brokerage account serve different purposes. Start with expected currencies, counterparties, card use and outgoing transfers. An account marketed to nonresidents may still have bank-specific documentation and approval requirements.

Resident and nonresident onboarding

Armenian banks can maintain nonresident relationships, but each institution applies its own due diligence. The ACBA account terms, for example, distinguish nonresident first-account fees and documentation. Those terms are evidence of one bank’s product, not a promise that every applicant can open remotely or pay the same fee.

Prepare passport and residence/address information, tax-residence details, occupation, source of funds and the purpose of the account. Business applicants also need registration, ownership, signatory and commercial evidence. A newly incorporated company without contracts may face a different review from an operating business.

Remote versus in-person opening

Ask the selected institution which identification and signature steps it accepts for the applicant’s nationality, status and account type. An online form or app does not prove that the entire onboarding can be completed from abroad. If a visit is required, arrange it after the document list is confirmed.

Dram and foreign-currency deposits have different guarantees

The deposit-guarantee framework protects eligible individual and sole-proprietor deposits within statutory limits: up to AMD 16 million for dram deposits and an AMD 7 million equivalent limit for foreign-currency deposits. Mixed holdings at the same bank have an aggregation formula; the two headline limits are not automatically added to AMD 23 million.

For example, the published mixed-currency explanation distinguishes dram balances above AMD 7 million from those below it. Account ownership, bank aggregation and eligible deposit type must be considered. These limits are not a guarantee of exchange rates or investment performance.

Transfers and the company’s commercial footprint

A bank may request contracts, invoices and explanations for cross-border activity after opening. Keep the declared business model aligned with actual transactions and update ownership, signatories and tax residence when they change. The tax character of a receipt is independent of the currency or bank account used.

Brokerage and custody are separate from banking

A deposit account is not a brokerage relationship. Identify the regulated provider, custodian, available markets and client-asset arrangements before funding securities transactions. Deposit insurance should not be described as protection against a market loss or a broker’s every obligation.

A useful application packet

Bring a coherent explanation of who owns the funds, where the money came from and how the account will be used. For a business, connect contracts and expected transfers to the actual entity and authorised signatory. We distinguish personal, corporate, trust/foundation and brokerage-account support; a country guide explains the local context without creating a separate product for every bank.
