Who Andorra can suit

Andorra can appeal to people who want to live in the Pyrenees while combining a European time zone with a comparatively low ordinary income-tax rate. Its strongest fit is a real base: housing, family routines and work that can operate within the relevant immigration permission.

The trade-off is a small market with mountain-road access to international airports. A nonworking permission is not a general licence to operate a local business, and a company registration does not automatically provide immigration permission. Start with the activity and household you want to establish.

Choose the route before the house

The principal routes serve different purposes: employment, active self-employment, ordinary residence without work, approved digital-nomad activity and family reunification. Specialist international-professional, scientific, cultural or sporting routes have their own conditions.

Law 2/2026 materially changed new ordinary nonworking and company-based self-employed applications. For nonworking residence, the ordinary qualifying investment is EUR 1 million with a specific housing-fund alternative. The principal EUR 50,000 state payment is nonrefundable after grant; the older refundable-deposit description is no longer a reliable summary for that route.

Tax planning has to cover the departure country

Andorran residence does not erase tax residence, source income or departure taxes elsewhere. Andorra also has worldwide resident taxation and personal/corporate CFC rules. The useful comparison is the full structure after immigration, company management and asset-sale plans are taken into account.

An investor should preserve acquisition costs before moving; a business owner should establish who will manage each entity. Those files make the difference between a workable structure and a low-rate assumption.

Family life: schools, health and the valley

The Andorran, French and Spanish education systems provide distinct language and curriculum choices. Choose a school pathway before committing to a long lease, particularly for a child close to examinations. Admission and transport arrangements are specific to the school.

The national hospital is in Escaldes-Engordany. CASS coverage and the private insurance required for some immigration routes are different arrangements. Housing elevation, winter access and the daily school/work route can matter more than the apparent distance on a map.

Where to begin

Andorra la Vella and adjoining Escaldes-Engordany form the central urban base for administration, shops and services. The other parishes offer different combinations of mountain access, housing and commuting. Visit in the season that is hardest for your household, not only on a sunny holiday.

The linked tax and residence guides explain the legal building blocks. If you want help turning them into a complete move or business structure, send the current country of residence, citizenships, family composition and intended work activity through the inquiry form.
