Choose the permission that matches the activity
Andorra has several residence categories rather than one universal investor visa. Quotas and admissibility apply in addition to the financial or professional criteria. A permission for the principal applicant does not automatically grant the same work rights to every family member.
The main routes
| Route | Core basis | Main distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Local employment | Employer contract and relevant quota | Residence and work; assess role and qualifications |
| Self-employment/company | Approved active business and qualifying ownership/management | Company route differs from regulated professional |
| Ordinary residence without work | Qualifying investment, resources, insurance and presence | Not general local employment permission |
| Digital nomad | Prior ministry approval for the qualifying remote activity | Not automatic for every online worker |
| Family reunification | Recognised relationship and sponsor conditions | Each family member’s status/work position matters |
| Specialist international/professional/cultural/sporting | Specific statutory category | Do not copy ordinary investor figures into another route |
What changed in 2026
Law 2/2026 raises the ordinary nonworking investment requirement to EUR 1 million, with a defined EUR 400,000 housing-fund alternative. New principal and dependant state payments are EUR 50,000 and EUR 12,000 respectively and are nonrefundable after approval. Existing applications and other categories require their own transitional analysis.
Family and dependent ages
The reunification guidance includes spouses or registered stable partners, children under custody, specified dependent adult children and qualifying ascendants. It also asks for evidence for students aged eighteen to twenty-five. That documentary category should not be read as an unrestricted right for all adult children; continuous study, dependency and the relevant legal route must be established.
Parents generally need to be at least sixty-five or retired and dependent under the published category. A partner, adult child or parent who does not meet the route must have another basis to reside.
Same-sex couples
Andorran civil marriage is available to couples of the same or different sex under Law 30/2022. Immigration authorities still require the relevant marriage/registered-partnership evidence and sponsor conditions. A foreign ceremony, an unregistered relationship and a locally recognised civil marriage are not interchangeable documents.
Presence, renewals and tax
Ordinary nonworking and digital-nomad permissions require at least ninety days of principal actual residence per year. Their published sequence is an initial two years, followed by renewals of two, three and then ten years, subject to the route and treaty exceptions. Renewals require continued eligibility.
The tax test is separate: more than 183 days is one trigger, while economic and family interests can also establish residence. Meeting the immigration minimum does not prove where you pay tax.
Documents and decisions
Passport, civil status, criminal record, accommodation, health cover and financial/activity evidence form the core file. Document recency, legalisation and medical requirements are not optional details. The authority’s decision, the permit’s validity and the investment-completion deadline are three different dates.
