Eligibility & suitability
Who can qualify
- Applicant with a qualifying salaried job offer meeting the 2026 remuneration threshold.
- Employment ordinarily at least 30 hours weekly, with terms meeting Danish standards.
- Family members separately qualifying under the accompanying-worker route.
Restrictions & unsuitable cases
- A company investment or property purchase without qualifying employment.
- Assuming an EU Blue Card from another state authorises the Danish job.
- Using every non-cash or variable benefit automatically toward the salary threshold.
- Treating the permit as unrestricted permission for unrelated work.
From employment offer to a working relocation
Authority time is only one stage; preparation, biometrics and each family application must be scheduled separately.

A permit for a qualifying salaried job
The Pay Limit Scheme is a national Danish work route for a qualifying employment offer. It does not require a particular academic field, but the job must satisfy the salary, hours and other employment conditions. The 2026 annual salary threshold is DKK 552,000 and the ordinary minimum is 30 hours per week.
This can be relevant to an employee whose remuneration meets the threshold even where the role is not on an occupation shortage list. It is not permission to move without an employer and search indefinitely for any kind of work. The actual employment terms and the permitted job must remain aligned.
Check eligible remuneration and contract terms
The salary test counts qualifying cash remuneration and fixed supplements, labour-market pension contributions and eligible holiday allowance. Benefits such as a car, phone, internet or employer-paid housing do not count toward the threshold. Timing of holiday pay matters, so a headline compensation figure must be reconciled with the eligible amount in the relevant year.
Salary must be paid to a Danish bank account in the employee’s name. The ordinary opening deadline is 180 days from grant, or from entry if entry follows grant; someone already holding a Danish permit valid for at least 180 days must use that account from the first salary payment. Plan bank onboarding alongside the application. Regulated professions can require professional authorisation as well as the work permit.
Public fees and processing expectations
SIRI lists DKK 6,810 for the 2026 principal application. Family members use their own applications and charges. These are government fees, not an Offshore Capitalist service price, and do not include translation, legalisation, travel, housing or ongoing living costs.
The stated normal processing time is one month, with up to three months where more information is needed. This is an authority target for the relevant application, not the total time to obtain documents, secure an appointment, move the family and establish banking. The right to start work must be checked separately.
| Budget item | Amount / basis | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Principal application | DKK 6,810 | 2026 public fee. |
| Accompanying family application | DKK 3,080 per applicant | 2026 family fee; route and any exemption must be checked. |
| Other expenditure | Case-specific | Documentation, travel, relocation and professional coordination are separate. |
Work rights, job changes and continuity
The permission is tied to the approved employment and its conditions. A long employment can support a permit of up to four years, while a shorter contract can limit the period. Passport validity can also affect the practical grant.
A new employer requires a new application, whereas a qualifying position change within the same company need not require a new permit. Notify SIRI of job changes or loss. After involuntary job loss, an application for the available six-month job-seeking permission has a two-day deadline; job-seeking residence does not itself authorise work. Review the applicable start-work rule when a new application is submitted.
Family members can have their own work questions
Eligible accompanying family ordinarily includes a spouse/registered partner, qualifying cohabitant and children under 18. The usual family route grants work access, but employment in the principal’s company or a closely linked company can require separate permission.
A family plan should therefore ask what the partner intends to do, not merely whether they can receive a residence card. Prepare relationship and custody evidence early, particularly where the whole family will not travel together.
Coordinate the employment with tax planning
The Pay Limit immigration threshold is different from the tax scheme for researchers and highly paid employees. Compare ordinary taxation and any possible special tax treatment before finalising remuneration and start dates. Company management, a retained foreign home and investment holdings may need their own review.
For an inquiry, provide the proposed employer, role, weekly hours, salary components, nationality and family details. This lets Offshore Capitalist assess the international planning questions and define any coordination scope without implying that immigration acceptance follows from salary alone.
