The application sequence
Preparation and authority decisions are separate stages. Processing depends on the route, document checks and the individual case.
01Choose the legal routeBefore paying deposits
Match employment, entrepreneur, executive or property evidence to the actual route. Confirm all family members separately.
Documents & evidence
- Passports
- Employment or business evidence
- Marriage and birth records
- A visitor entry permission is not work permission.
- A property reservation is not proof of approved residence.
02Prepare and attest documentsBefore submission; document issue and legalisation times vary
Check the issuing-country authentication chain and the receiving authority’s translation and validity requirements.
Documents & evidence
- Police certificate where required
- Attested civil certificates
- Degrees and employment letters where required
- A document accepted by the employer may still require immigration attestation.
03Secure approval and enter correctlyAfter the relevant sponsor or authority decision
04Complete residence formalitiesAfter arrival or authorised status change
Complete the required medical examination, fingerprints and QID procedure. Then update bank and healthcare records.
Documents & evidence
- Medical/biometric appointments
- Address details
- Residence application records
- The next step can depend on a QID or completed residence approval.
05Settle the household and businessOnce the relevant permissions are active
Arrange school, healthcare, utilities, banking and any company compliance before treating the move as complete.
Documents & evidence
- Lease and address evidence
- School records
- Company and tax records
- Immigration presence and foreign tax departure dates are assessed separately.
Start with work rights and the household
An employed mover starts with the employer’s legal ability to sponsor the role. An entrepreneur starts with the actual business and nomination requirements. The new executive route is for existing QID holders nominated by qualifying employers. A property buyer starts with approved ownership and the MOJ valuation. These routes should not be blended into one generic “Qatar visa”.
Build the document file once
- Passports with the route’s required validity; keep names consistent across all records.
- Marriage, birth, custody and consent records for each relevant dependant.
- Police certificates, qualifications, CV and experience evidence where the route requires them.
- Employment contract, establishment documents, bank statements or property title appropriate to the route.
- Attestation and translation evidence; ask about document recency before ordering replacements.
Budget beyond rent
Separate housing and deposits from schooling, healthcare, insurance, vehicles, relocation and the cost of running a business. A salary package should identify basic pay, allowances and benefits because those distinctions can affect pension or gratuity calculations. Compare the full package, not just the headline monthly salary.
Housing and school selection
A rental decision should follow actual work and school locations. Confirm whether the lease includes cooling and utilities, who maintains equipment and what the exit provisions require. For a purchase, verify the designated ownership area, property category and approved value rather than treating every advertised unit as residence-qualifying.
Banking and health registration
Prepare identity, residence, address and income evidence for banking. QNB’s published current-account guidance allows a limited process before a QID is supplied, with a deadline and account restrictions if it is not completed. This is not universal remote opening for nonresidents. Register the family’s public-health eligibility and any private insurance separately.
Keep departure evidence
Before moving, document homes, days, dependants, company roles and asset values in the old country. Qatar’s exemptions do not decide the old country’s departure tax or remaining source taxation. Keep a contemporaneous file rather than trying to reconstruct the move years later.
