Choose the account around its purpose

A salary account, company operating account and investment custody relationship solve different problems. Start with expected currencies, countries, counterparties, transaction values and the legal account holder. Opening a local company does not guarantee that a bank will accept its risk profile.

Personal accounts and the QID

QNB’s current-account guidance requires original identity evidence, including passport and QID. It describes a limited arrangement where the QID is supplied within 90 days; failure to complete that requirement can restrict the account. This should not be marketed as unrestricted permanent remote opening without residence.

Check salary or balance requirements, proof of address, the accepted source of funds and any employer introduction with the specific bank. An application’s acceptance and final functionality depend on the bank’s due diligence.

Corporate evidence

  • Commercial registration, licence, constitutional and establishment documents.
  • Board or authorised-signatory resolutions and identity evidence.
  • Beneficial owners and controlling persons, with the chain through any corporate shareholders.
  • Business model, expected transactions, contracts and source of initial funds.
  • Tax-residence self-certifications, FATCA/CRS forms and any additional investment-residence declarations.

Remote preparation versus completed opening

Documents can often be prepared remotely, but an online enquiry or digital application is not evidence that every customer can complete opening without a visit. Ask which signatories must attend, what originals are required and whether identification, residence or activation must happen in Qatar.

Company structure and payment flows

Explain why the company belongs in Qatar, where management and staff work, and how customer receipts and supplier payments relate to the licence. A transparent flow diagram and consistent contracts are more useful than promising a “no questions” account. Banking due diligence does not replace the tax review.

When residence or ownership changes

Update passport, QID, address, tax residence and beneficial-ownership information promptly under the bank’s requirements. Before leaving, ask whether the relationship can continue in the new circumstances and whether a salary-linked facility or borrowing must be changed. Do not assume a dormant account can be retained indefinitely without updated evidence.
