Choose a real departure date
Your last working day, residence cancellation, final flight and next-country tax-residence date may differ. Record them separately. Review property, family and commercial ties that continue after departure; a cancelled card is not a universal tax-residence certificate.
Reconcile employment and gratuity
Check final salary, unused entitlements, contractual benefits and the gratuity calculation under the applicable labour regime. For covered employees with at least one year, Article 54’s minimum uses last basic wage, not automatically the entire package including allowances. Obtain a written settlement and retain the supporting pay records.
Deal with the residence file
Use the route-specific cancellation, transfer or continuing-residence procedure. Do not assume that stopping employment has the same consequence for an independently held property or long-term permit. Review dependants’ status at the same time and obtain the authority’s instructions for the family’s sequence.
Tell the bank what changes
Give the bank current contact, tax-residence and identity details. Ask whether the account can continue in the new circumstances and whether lending, salary assignments or guarantees need settlement. Retaining an account without updating its KYC file is not a substitute for an agreed nonresident arrangement.
Close or retain the business deliberately
Decide whether the company will continue to operate, move management, cease activity or liquidate. Consider asset disposals, withholding, payroll and final reporting; a licence cancellation does not itself clear every tax obligation. For an in-scope group, the minimum-tax reporting cycle is a separate issue.
Preserve the asset history for the destination
No general personal departure deemed-disposal tax has been identified in the ordinary law reviewed here. That does not establish an arrival-value basis elsewhere. Retain original costs, acquisition dates, business/private classifications, market values and any previous-country tax assessments so the next destination can be analysed correctly.
