Which route answers your need?
| Issue | Practical meaning |
|---|---|
| Ordinary employment | Employer and labour permission for the actual job, followed by the visa/residence process. |
| Joining relatives | Spouse or children under 21 joining the qualifying resident under the published ordinary route. |
| Golden Residency | Renewable ten-year investment route with approved tracks and a broader published family feature. |
| Citizenship | A separate discretionary process under the 2025 Nationality Law. |
Employment residence
The Royal Oman Police describes the work visa as employer-requested, based on the relevant labour permission. The job and profession must match the approval. Regulated professions can require additional clearance, and medical evidence applies to specified categories. A visitor should not start employment while waiting for the correct permit.
Ordinary family joining
The current Gov.om service covers a husband, wife and children under 21 joining the relevant foreign resident, landlord or investor. The listed evidence includes passport and photograph, sponsor’s passport and resident card, proof of relationship and an employer responsibility letter. Validity of the sponsor’s residence matters.
The current service page does not establish one universal salary threshold for every case. Older pages and informal summaries differ. Ask the Royal Oman Police for the actual sponsor and route conditions rather than relying on a number copied from an old article.
Golden Residency is a distinct programme
The programme launched in 2025 uses an OMR 200,000 minimum investment framework and renewable ten-year residence. Qualifying investment and job-creation tracks have their own evidence. The ministry describes family inclusion without age or number restrictions, but identity, relationship, security and application checks still apply.
Work rights and property rights
Do not assume a residence document permits every profession or business activity. A company must hold its commercial permissions, and an employee needs the relevant work authorisation. Foreign property ownership also depends on the legal category and programme; the rights advertised for a Golden Residency holder should not be generalized to all nonresidents.
Renewal and children growing older
Review the sponsor, investment and family facts before renewal. An ordinary family child approaching 21 may need a different route, whereas Golden Residency has a separate published family scope. Neither is a nationality grant, and neither settles tax residence abroad.
