Departure has several dates

Your final working day, residence cancellation, departure flight and next-country arrival are not necessarily the same date. Keep a timeline and identify which relationships continue: property, company management, family, contracts and bank accounts. Those facts can affect tax and administrative obligations after departure.

Employment and family permissions

Reconcile salary, leave and end-of-service entitlements under the applicable employment rules. Coordinate the principal’s cancellation or transfer with the dependants’ status. Do not assume that a family permission survives a change in the sponsor’s circumstances without the required process.

Bank accounts can need conversion

Bank Muscat publishes a process for conversion from resident to nonresident status, subject to the bank’s requirements. The evidence includes current identity, address and financial information. This shows why “close every account” and “keep every account unchanged” are both poor universal instructions.

Contact the bank before leaving, settle or restructure linked borrowing and provide the new tax-residence and contact information. Continued service depends on the account type and the bank’s acceptance.

Retained investments and Golden Residency

If retaining investment residence, confirm the permission’s maintenance and renewal conditions and the effect of selling or changing the investment. A ten-year card should not be treated as an unconditional ten-year right after the qualifying facts disappear. Review family and work permissions separately.

A business requires a closing plan

Decide whether the company continues with genuine management and activity, closes or transfers assets. Reconcile tax registration, returns, VAT, payroll and cross-border withholding. Moving an owner’s personal address does not itself terminate an Omani company’s worldwide income-tax exposure.

Keep the asset and tax record

For the current pre-PIT period, this guide does not establish a general personal emigration deemed-disposal charge. A business transaction is separate. A departure on or after 2028 needs review under the operative personal-tax rules, not an old “tax-free Oman” summary.

Retain original acquisition costs, valuations, previous exit-tax assessments and the new country’s arrival evidence. The next destination may use purchase cost, arrival value or a qualified rule depending on the asset.
