Start with the reason for another citizenship

Grenada’s programme provides a route through the National Transformation Fund or approved investment projects. The useful comparison is what the nationality adds to your existing position: a home option, particular travel access, family security or a business objective.

Evaluate living there as a real possibility. Healthcare, schools, air connections, community and climate matter if the country is intended as more than a document in a drawer.

Investment selection needs its own diligence

The official agency distinguishes a contribution from investment in a government-approved project. Its public project information includes decertified projects, which is a reason to check current approval rather than relying on a developer’s old brochure.

A qualifying share in a resort should be evaluated for rights, fees, distributions, completion risk and resale independently of the citizenship application. Government programme acceptance does not guarantee the economics.

U.S. access is often misunderstood

Grenada appears on the U.S. treaty-country list for E-2, but an E-2 application still requires a qualifying operating enterprise, investment and personal eligibility. Additional rules can apply where treaty nationality was acquired through investment. A Grenadian passport is not itself a U.S. visa or green card.

Grenada is not a U.S. Visa Waiver Program member. Current UK rules permit eligible short visits with an ETA, and the EU Council lists Schengen short-visit exemption. Those are visitor arrangements, not rights to work or settle in those destinations.

Keep the tax question separate

A citizenship grant does not terminate your old tax residence or move your company’s management. Anyone planning to live in Grenada needs a local income and corporate-tax analysis. Existing citizenship-based obligations, including U.S. obligations where applicable, may also continue.

We can help compare the full family and business implications, select a suitable route and coordinate the agreed application support through appropriately authorised parties. The programme is useful when it solves a defined problem, not because every internationally minded person needs another passport.

Contribution and approved-project economics

The National Transformation Fund starts at USD 235,000 for the published principal or qualifying family category, but siblings, younger parents and additional dependants can add contributions. Application, processing, due diligence and interview costs sit outside that amount. A family quote should list ages and relationships next to the charges.

The approved-project schedule uses different qualifying investment structures, including USD 350,000 and USD 270,000 entries plus government fees. The lower entry is not a general right to buy any property. Confirm the project’s current approval, the interest actually acquired and the applicable holding and resale terms.

A current project check is part of implementation

IMA publishes project information that includes decertified projects. Before signing, confirm that the specific offering and transaction remain eligible. The commercial review should cover completion, title or share rights, debt ranking, annual charges, rental arrangements and the practical exit.

A promised yield is a contractual or investment claim, not a citizenship entitlement. Assess whether the family can tolerate a delayed or lower-value exit without disrupting its other plans. For someone primarily seeking citizenship, the simpler contribution route may be easier to evaluate despite being non-refundable.

Local tax obligations remain separate from nationality

Grenada’s Inland Revenue guidance identifies income from business, employment, rentals, royalties, interest and other categories. It describes a personal employment threshold of EC$36,000 annually, or EC$3,000 monthly, and separately administers corporate income tax. The threshold is not a CBI contribution and is not an exemption for an entire company.

For a person intending to work from Grenada, classify the activity and determine the applicable local income and reporting obligations. The authority’s G-TAX guidance identifies withholding on certain payments by residents to nonresidents at 15%; exemptions, treaties and the payment’s legal character still require review.

A US business objective needs a second feasibility assessment

Grenada’s treaty relationship can be relevant for E-2, but the proposed US business must meet the active-enterprise, substantial-at-risk-investment and control tests. The applicant’s acquisition of nationality and domicile history can be decisive. A citizenship approval is not a preliminary approval of the US case.

Map the intended sequence before committing: nationality eligibility, any domicile requirement, acquisition of a suitable US enterprise, the E-2 application and the family’s actual move. Also review when US days could create tax residence and how foreign investments or companies would then be treated.

Who can act in the citizenship application

The official Grenada process distinguishes authorised marketing agents from authorised local agents. The local agent submits the file and handles government correspondence; the committee’s recommendation is followed by the responsible minister’s decision. An intermediary should explain its precise role and who is responsible for the formal submission.

Identity, civil, medical, background and source-of-funds records need to support the entire family. Interviews and checks can extend to specified non-applicant spouses or sponsors. A complicated family or funding arrangement should be discussed before quoting a standard application timeline.

A passport’s practical value should survive marketing comparisons

Grenadian nationality provides the country’s own national relationship; current UK ETA and Schengen short-visit treatment concern limited visitor access elsewhere. Neither grants settlement or employment rights in those destinations. The US Visa Waiver Program does not include Grenada.

The citizenship is most useful when it addresses a defined need: family nationality, a credible alternate home or specific business/travel objectives. Compare those benefits against the full cost, investment risk and continuing tax situation. A founder who mainly needs banking or company formation may be better served by that narrower project first.
