Find out whether your account can be opened without travel—and what the complete process requires.

Check the route from application to activation

Remote opening is a method, not an account type. A personal account, a company operating account, a trust or foundation account and a brokerage account each have different requirements. Start with the account you need, then assess whether its complete opening process can be handled from where you are.

Fully remote

All required application, identity, document and activation steps are accepted without a visit for the actual applicant.

Hybrid

Preparation is online, but a video interview, certified documents, originals or an appointment remain part of the route.

In person

One or more specified people must attend. Confirm the attendee list, location, originals and prerequisites before booking travel.

Choose the account you need

We assess the holder, purpose and available institutions, then confirm the opening route and the agreed work.

Four things to establish before applying

Applicant eligibility

Residence, citizenship, legal form, ownership, activity and the purpose of the account.

People to verify

Every relevant holder, signatory, director, trustee, council member or other connected person required by the institution.

Document acceptance

Accepted formats, certification, translations, document age and any physical delivery.

Opening versus use

Approval, funding, cards, signatures, user permissions and the account functions you need after opening.

Questions about opening from abroad

Can you tell me which country is easiest?

The easiest workable route depends on the applicant and the account’s purpose. We start with those facts and assess a suitable institution before accepting the engagement.

Does remote opening cost less?

It may avoid a trip, but certification, translation, account charges and professional work can still apply. Compare the complete route rather than a headline opening fee.

Will I need to travel later?

Confirm whether any intended service or change requires attendance later. Remote opening and remote access are related but different questions.

What should I send in the first inquiry?

Choose the account type and describe the holder, residence or entity jurisdiction, purpose, approximate funding and ability to travel. Detailed identity and financial records follow through the agreed process.

Find a route that fits

Tell Tijana and the team which account you need, the holder’s residence or entity jurisdiction, the intended activity and whether travel is possible. We will assess the fit and explain the next step.

  • HSBC Expat: A provider example of destination-specific eligibility and online, branch or International Banking Centre application routes. Not a list of Offshore Capitalist providers.
  • HSBC Commercial Banking: Hong Kong business-account example. The mobile route is eligibility-limited; other applicants may need video or a banking-centre appointment.
  • HSBC Commercial Banking: Narrow example for charitable organisations and trust ownership within that checklist; not a general private-trust or foundation eligibility rule. Includes connected persons, constitutional evidence and source-of-funds requirements.
  • Interactive Brokers: Brokerage application examples separated by applicant jurisdiction and account type; foreign-trust requirements differ from domestic categories.
  • Interactive Brokers: Entity brokerage examples, including trading authority and additional requests for complex structures. Does not establish eligibility for every entity or residence.
