What determines whether remote opening works
An online brokerage application still needs the right account category and a complete explanation of who owns and controls the assets. We help assess the opening route and coordinate the evidence, including entity or trust documents where needed.
Residence and provider entity
Check which legal provider and account categories are available for the holder’s residence. A group’s website can describe several different onboarding regimes.
Account title and authorised users
Identify the personal, joint, corporate or structure holder and every person who will operate or trade on the account.
Requested permissions
Separate the core account from access to particular exchanges, asset types, margin or other permissions. Complete experience and financial questions accurately.
Funding and existing holdings
Confirm the accepted funding method and any requirements for transferring positions from another broker before giving transfer instructions.
The complete opening route
Remote opening
Many applications begin online, but eligibility and verification still depend on residence, provider entity, legal holder and account type. Confirm the route before preparing a transfer.
Additional verification
Complex entity, trust or source-of-funds questions can require extra records or an interview. Online submission does not establish acceptance.
Permissions and transfers
Opening an account, obtaining particular trading permissions and transferring existing investments are distinct checks. Assess each function you require.
Prepare before you apply
The initial inquiry should describe the holder, residence and intended use. Once the route is agreed, we coordinate the exact application evidence and any authority documents. The brokerage proposal sets its own completion and refund terms; bank-account engagement terms should not be assumed to apply.
Opening process & timing
The sequence is clear; the duration depends on the selected institution, complete documents and any required appointments. We confirm the expected route-specific timetable before engagement.
01Define the holder and investment accessBefore engagement
Identify who will own the account, residence, the markets and asset types needed, and whether funding will be cash or an intended transfer of existing positions.
02Agree the opening scopeAfter the fit assessment
Confirm the proposed provider route, document requirements, fees and any separate transfer or permission work. The institution decides eligibility and permissions.
03Prepare the application evidenceDepends on account type
Coordinate identity and tax records; an entity or trust also needs the relevant establishment and trading-authority evidence.
04Application and reviewProvider-dependent
Complete verification and follow-up. Answer investment experience and account-permission questions accurately; requested access is not automatic.
05Activate and arrange fundingAfter approval and provider instructions
Follow the accepted funding or transfer process. Confirm account access and any remaining permission restrictions before relying on the account.
Document checklist
Track your preparation in this browser. The selected institution confirms the final requirements for your application.

Review commissions, custody, market-data, FX and any other charges relevant to the intended use.
Funding and transfers
Minimum funding and transfer costs, if any, are confirmed for the provider and proposed assets. Money invested is distinct from service fees.
Separate services
Tax analysis, entity formation, investment advice, trading and portfolio management are not included unless separately and expressly agreed.
Remote-opening questions
Is brokerage opening the same service as opening a bank account?
No. Brokerage addresses investment custody and trading access. Confirm whether it also provides any cash or payment functionality you need rather than treating it as a replacement operating bank account.
Can a corporate account use the director’s personal application?
The application should reflect the actual legal holder. Corporate authority and user verification are additional issues; they should not be bypassed with a differently titled account.
Can I begin trading as soon as I submit the form?
Submission is not activation. The provider must complete its review, accept funding and grant any required permissions before the intended use can begin.
Get help with the opening
Tell us your residence, intended account holder, approximate assets, required markets and whether you plan to transfer an existing portfolio. Start with an outline rather than account statements.

Brokerage account categories differ
Interactive Brokers publishes separate individual, trust and business checklists. Entity applicants may need evidence of trading authority; trust requirements depend on the applicant category. The actual provider and account route determine the documents.
- Interactive Brokers: Brokerage application examples separated by applicant jurisdiction and account type; foreign-trust requirements differ from domestic categories.
- Interactive Brokers: Entity brokerage examples, including trading authority and additional requests for complex structures. Does not establish eligibility for every entity or residence.
