What determines whether remote opening works
The starting point is your complete profile, not a list of countries advertising online accounts. We assess whether a suitable personal account can be opened from where you are, then confirm the identity, document and activation steps before an engagement is accepted.
Where you are resident
Tell us your current residence and any imminent move. Citizenship, physical location during verification and destination eligibility may be separate questions.
Every account holder
A joint application needs a workable verification route for both people. One person’s eligibility does not establish the other’s.
Identity verification
Check supported documents, the video or app process, and whether certified copies or originals are needed. Resolve names and address evidence before beginning.
Access after approval
Confirm funding instructions, cards where included, delivery arrangements and whether any service needs a later visit.
The complete opening route
Remote opening
Potentially suitable where the institution accepts your residence, identity documents and funding profile through its remote process. Confirm whether every account holder can complete verification remotely.
In-person opening
A branch or relationship-manager appointment may be required. We establish who must attend, what originals to bring and whether any steps can be completed before travel.
Online start, later appointment
An online application can still lead to a video interview, document certification or a branch visit. We confirm the whole route, including activation, rather than treating form submission as opening.
Prepare before you apply
Begin with an outline of your circumstances and banking purpose. Once the route is accepted, we coordinate the specific evidence checklist. Do not book travel simply because a website offers an online application; establish whether attendance is actually required.
Opening process & timing
The sequence is clear; the duration depends on the selected institution, complete documents and any required appointments. We confirm the expected route-specific timetable before engagement.
01Define the account you needBefore engagement
Tell us where you live, your citizenships, the expected opening balance and how the account will be used. Identify essential currencies, payment routes, cards and any planned move.
02Agree the route and feeAfter the profile assessment
We confirm the suitable account criteria, remote or in-person requirements, expected dependencies and the accepted scope. The institution remains responsible for its decision.
03Complete the evidence fileDepends on document readiness
Prepare the requested identity, address, tax and funding evidence. Resolve differences between names, addresses or account ownership before submission.
04Application and verificationInstitution-dependent
Complete the selected application, identity checks and any appointment. We coordinate follow-up; additional questions or missing evidence can change the timetable.
05Funding and handoverAfter approval and activation requirements
Follow the institution’s funding instructions and confirm the agreed access and functions. Keep the documents and account terms needed for ongoing use.
Document checklist
Track your preparation in this browser. The selected institution confirms the final requirements for your application.
Budget for the whole process
Our opening fee
Quoted after profile assessment, with the accepted scope and suitable-account criteria.
Institution charges
Confirm opening, maintenance, transfer, card and currency-conversion charges for the selected account.
Balances and funding
An opening deposit or required ongoing balance is money held in the account, not our service fee. Any requirement is confirmed for the selected route.
Documents and travel
Certification, translation, courier costs or a visit are separate if needed; identify these before committing.
Remote-opening questions
Does non-resident mean remote?
No. Non-resident eligibility concerns who can hold the account; remote opening concerns how identity and documents are verified. A route may allow one without the other.
Does a video call remove all physical paperwork?
Not necessarily. An institution may combine video verification with certified or original documents. We confirm that combination for the selected application.
What if I am about to relocate?
Disclose the current position and planned move together. An account opened now must also make sense for the intended use after the move.
Get help with the opening
Tell Tijana and the team where you live, the account’s purpose, approximate funding and whether you can travel. Please leave identity documents and account statements out of the initial inquiry.

Personal overseas banking
HSBC’s overseas-account guide separates destination eligibility from the application route. It describes online, branch and International Banking Centre options, with a visit required in some locations. This is an institution-specific example, not our provider list.
