Eligibility & suitability

Who can qualify

  • Applicants satisfying the currently available route, due diligence, lawful funds and operative genuine-link obligations

Restrictions & unsuitable cases

  • A file relying on unresolved legacy/current-rule assumptions
  • False disclosure or disqualifying background
  • Applicants unwilling or unable to meet continuing conditions

Application process & timeline

The SISC page describes 120–180 days to notification after acknowledged submission; the notification can be approval in principle, rejection or delay for cause. Preparation, payment, grant and passport issuance are additional. The 2026 genuine-link transition must be resolved before commitment.

01Confirm the currently operative pathwayBefore paying route-specific non-refundable amounts+

Verify SISC or alternative availability, current nationality restrictions and family definitions. Obtain the operative genuine-link and post-grant requirements applying to this file rather than assuming the legacy no-residence description controls.

Documents & evidence

  • Passports and family outline
  • Written current-route conditions
  • Background history
Common complications
  • Making a fixed low-presence promise without the governing rule
References [1][2]
02Appoint the authorised agent and document fundsPreparation time depends on the history+

Prepare the required identity, civil, health, police and lawful-funds evidence. Reconcile business ownership and transactions to the source-of-wealth account and explain relevant adverse or visa history.

Documents & evidence

  • Forms and civil records
  • Police and medical evidence
  • Financial records
Common complications
  • An incomplete source-of-funds trail despite sufficient wealth

03Submit and pay applicable due-diligence feesAt the acknowledged submission stage+

Submit the complete file through the authorised channel. Preserve the acknowledgement, invoices and supporting documents. The published notification range applies to the specified government stage, not the date of first contact with an adviser.

Documents & evidence

  • Submission acknowledgement
  • Fee receipts
  • Complete file copy
Common complications
  • Advertising the notification range as guaranteed passport delivery

04Complete interview and additional checksDuring government assessment; variable scheduling+

The principal undergoes the required interview, and dependants may be interviewed when required. Provide requested updates and be ready to explain the actual investment, wealth and family facts.

Documents & evidence

  • Interview identification
  • Requested updates
  • Supporting explanations
Common complications
  • Withholding an inconvenient fact that later appears in checks
References [1]
05Complete the approved contribution or investmentAfter approval in principle under the stated conditions+

Follow the official approval and payment instructions, satisfying the selected route and any additional operative conditions. Verify the receiving account and retain proof of the full payment and investment terms.

Documents & evidence

  • Approval letter
  • Contribution/investment proof
  • Remaining conditions
Common complications
  • Confusing an intermediary’s preliminary approval with government approval
References [1][2]
06Complete citizenship, biometrics and passport formalitiesAfter all grant conditions; timing and locations require confirmation+

Obtain the correct citizenship and passport documents and record ongoing obligations under the grant. Review future travel rules independently: UK/Schengen visitor access is not residence permission, and the country is not a US VWP member.

Documents & evidence

  • Citizenship and passport records
  • Biometric records if required
  • Post-grant calendar
Common complications
  • Assuming visa access or programme conditions can never change

Published SISC economics

The CIU’s Sustainable Island State Contribution page lists USD 250,000 for a main applicant or a family of up to four, with additional contributions of USD 25,000 for each extra dependant under 18 and USD 50,000 for each extra adult dependant. The page lists due diligence at USD 10,000 for the main applicant and USD 7,500 for each dependant aged 16 or above.

These are programme amounts, not an all-inclusive professional quote. Add document, medical, authentication, translation, passport, biometric and other applicable charges after checking the current schedule. Alternative investment routes need separate qualification and cost analysis.

Timing and common obstacles

The SISC page describes notification within 120–180 days of acknowledged submission: approval in principle, denial or delay for cause. This is not a promise of a passport within that period and does not include preparation.

Incomplete disclosure, inconsistent financial evidence, assumptions about family eligibility and misunderstanding the changing continuing obligations can all create problems. Keep the investment or contribution, the citizenship decision and the passport process separate in the project plan.

Tax and the broader plan

Citizenship does not end residence-based tax obligations elsewhere. Assess the country as a real home option and compare the actual journeys the passport supports. We can help clarify the route and coordinate the full scope with appropriately authorised application providers.

Cost depends on age and family size

The published SISC base of USD 250,000 covers the principal alone or the stated family of up to four. Beyond that family size, the contribution rises by USD 25,000 per extra dependant below eighteen or USD 50,000 per extra adult. Due diligence is a separate USD 10,000 for the principal and USD 7,500 for each applicable dependant sixteen or older.

A principal and spouse with two children below sixteen therefore have USD 267,500 in the published base contribution and adult due-diligence components, before other government, interview, document, passport and professional costs. This is a transparent subtotal, not an all-inclusive quote or a guarantee of eligibility.

Do not commit on the basis of contradictory presence descriptions

The programme’s public SISC page and its 2026 genuine-link statements do not provide a single reliable day-count answer for every new applicant. The latter describes substantive connections through physical presence, economic activity or other engagement and continuing obligations. It would be misleading to translate that into an invented universal thirty-day rule.

Before submission, obtain the applicable current rule, commencement date and written terms for the chosen route. If an applicant cannot meet the actual obligations, changing the financial route may not solve the mismatch. The file should preserve what was confirmed, rather than rely on a salesperson’s verbal assurance.

A citizenship grant and a Nevis structure solve different problems

A second nationality can provide a durable national relationship. A Nevis company, LLC or trust instead requires an analysis of legal ownership, control, tax classification and the countries connected to the assets and people. Neither citizenship nor incorporation makes assets immune from lawful obligations.

If a business owner is also relocating, examine where the company’s functions and decisions will occur. The Federation’s tax authority distinguishes the absence of individual income tax from corporate return and tax obligations. Existing tax residence abroad must still be ended under that country’s rules where that is the objective.
