What the tax system covers

Individual income tax was abolished in 1980. Company income tax, unincorporated business tax, employment-related charges and property or consumption taxes are separate. A passport does not establish that the owner has ceased residence in another country.

When you become tax resident

IRD confirms the absence of ordinary personal income tax, but that is not a complete definition of individual tax residence. Its current CRS guidance requires financial institutions to verify a claim of exclusive Saint Kitts and Nevis residence against supporting records and to resolve conflicting information. The January 2026 CBI/RBI bulletin distinguishes citizenship or permission to reside from the actual tax-residence position. The primary material reviewed here does not establish a universal domestic 183-day test, so this guide does not present one as verified. Confirm the applicable domestic and treaty standard before requesting a residence certificate or declaring exclusive residence to a bank.

Rates and the tax base

No general personal income tax. Income tax on individuals was abolished in 1980. Company tax, social levies, property and transaction taxes are separate; this statement is not a promise that a business structure or foreign-source country imposes no tax.

Private investment gains and business trading

The ordinary income-tax charge excludes individuals for income accruing from May 1980; the Act’s short-holding-period capital-gain rule should therefore not be mislabelled a general personal capital-gains tax. Company transactions, business levies, property-transfer charges and foreign source-country taxation require separate review.

Asset cost basis on arrival

The arrival cost-basis treatment for this country has not yet been established in this comparison. Do not assume either an arrival-value reset or retention of original cost.

  • The treatment needs to be checked separately for ordinary shares, funds, property, business interests and assets acquired by gift or inheritance.

Individual income tax and company tax must be separated

The Federation’s tax authority states that individual income tax was abolished in 1980. Its corporate FAQ separately describes a 33% rate for the corporate instalment calculation. The absence of individual income tax therefore does not mean every business or legal entity is untaxed.

For a relocating entrepreneur, establish which entity earns the revenue, where people work, where decisions occur and how money reaches the owner. Payroll-related charges, indirect taxes, property obligations and the former country’s rules can still matter. A citizenship certificate does not decide these questions.

A company is a separate taxpayer

IRD's published corporate system continues alongside the absence of individual income tax. A founder therefore needs to distinguish personally earned receipts, the company's profit and transfers from the company. Tax planning should reconcile the business's own liability and filings before calculating what is available for the owner to spend. Unincorporated business activity requires a different registration and tax review.

Passport, home and company management have separate consequences

A citizenship grant gives nationality. A real move changes living arrangements. A company's governance changes only when its competent decision-makers and authority change in fact. These can happen on different dates and under different countries' rules. Build the plan around those actual events, especially where the existing business continues serving clients and employing people abroad.

Keep a record of retained homes, family location, director activity, working days and the origin of investment income. For a US citizen, for example, living in a country without individual income tax does not end US citizenship-based taxation. For other owners, the former residence country's departure and continuing-source rules still require a specific review.

Citizenship documents do not replace a residence analysis

Section 3.5 of IRD’s current CRS guidance requires a self-certification with residence jurisdictions and tax identifiers, supported by reasonable due diligence. If the record conflicts with a claim of exclusive local residence, the institution must obtain clarification; multiple residence claims can produce reporting to multiple jurisdictions. This is a banking-reporting obligation, not a citizenship revocation rule.

Keep evidence of the actual home, stays and continuing foreign connections. A passport obtained through investment establishes nationality, while residence for tax purposes follows the applicable legal tests. The local absence of ordinary personal income tax does not cancel citizenship-based taxation, residence or source-income obligations imposed by another country.

Foreign companies and income attribution

A current legislative CFC review is not complete; citizenship-programme marketing is not sufficient evidence of the tax regime.

Departure, migration and continuing obligations

No comprehensive current departure-tax review is asserted in this draft.
