Eligibility & suitability

Who can qualify

  • Remote workers with the required overseas-company employment agreement and at least US$60,000 annual income evidence.
  • Applicants meeting the separate maintenance, passport and document requirements.

Restrictions & unsuitable cases

  • People intending unrestricted local employment or activities inconsistent with the granted permission.
  • Applicants relying solely on savings rather than the required income and employment evidence.
  • Freelancers whose contractual arrangement has not been confirmed as acceptable for E33G.

Application process & timeline

E33G is a specific remote-employment permission. Document the contractual facts first, then the immigration sequence.

01Confirm the employment modelBefore relocation or application.+

Check that the employer is established outside Indonesia and the contract fits the route. Assess whether the work includes local sales, services or control of foreign companies, and resolve those legal and tax implications rather than assuming the visa settles them.

Documents & evidence

  • Employment agreement
  • Role description
Common complications
  • Calling any online activity remote employment

02Reconcile annual income and savings evidencePreparation varies with the employer and bank.+

Prepare the required income evidence separately from the three-month maintenance statement. Explain multiple currencies, variable remuneration and any mismatch between the contracting employer and paying entity. Ensure the applicant name is consistent.

Documents & evidence

  • Income bank evidence
  • Maintenance statements
Common complications
  • Using an unexplained transfer as proof of annual earnings

03Submit the E33G application and paymentPublished target: five working days after payment.+

Use the official e-Visa account and index, upload the CV and itinerary with the identity and financial file, and pay the official charges. Monitor for requests and retain the submitted version for later renewal.

Documents & evidence

  • Application
  • Passport/photo
  • CV
  • Receipt
Common complications
  • Assuming payment means approval

04Check the grant and enter on timePublished visa-use window: ninety days from issuance.+

Check the permitted purpose, passport details and entry deadline. Arrange travel only with an appropriate permission and maintain a realistic fallback if immigration requires additional checks.

Documents & evidence

  • Visa grant
  • Travel plans
Common complications
  • Confusing visa-use validity with the one-year stay

05Verify electronic residence and re-entry permissionFollowing admission.+

Check the issued ITAS and re-entry record and complete applicable address or local reporting. Obtain confirmation before adding a different activity. Keep the employer arrangement and work performed consistent with the permission.

Documents & evidence

  • ITAS
  • Re-entry permission
  • Address records
Common complications
  • Treating residence as unrestricted permission to work locally

06Renew and review tax residenceBefore expiry and when work circumstances change.+

Prepare current employment and income evidence for online extension. Reassess if the employer, contract or actual work changes. Track residence days and intention-to-stay evidence for Indonesian taxation and the former country’s departure requirements.

Documents & evidence

  • Updated employment/income file
  • Travel log
  • Tax records
Common complications
  • Assuming annual visa renewal prevents tax residence

No assumed tax exemption

DGT’s guidance states that resident foreigners generally report worldwide income. Residence can arise through where a person lives, day count or intention. Work physically performed in Indonesia and management of a foreign business need their own analysis. An immigration approval should not be treated as evidence that Indonesia or the previous home country has relinquished taxing rights.

The actual E33G qualification

The national Immigration page now available for this research confirms an employment agreement with a company established outside Indonesia and bank evidence of salary or income of at least US$60,000 a year. It separately requires recent three-month maintenance evidence of at least US$2,000 equivalent. The income and maintenance requirements answer different questions; a single large balance does not necessarily demonstrate the annual income.

The page describes no sponsor requirement and a one-year limited stay, with online extension and possible conversion under applicable rules. It lists IDR7 million in government charges. These are official immigration charges, not the cost of tax review, translations, professional support or relocation. A freelance client contract should not be assumed to satisfy the employment-agreement wording without confirmation.

What changes when the work is performed in Indonesia

The permitted purpose is carrying out duties for an overseas company while living in Indonesia. That does not settle where employment income is sourced for tax or whether the worker’s activities create Indonesian obligations for the company. A founder exercising strategic authority from Bali needs a different review from an employee with no contract-signing or management authority.

Clarify remuneration, employer identity, responsibilities, customer locations and any local sales or services before applying. Keep the employer’s written agreement to the work location and decide who manages tax, payroll and permanent-establishment questions. An immigration route can permit an activity while tax law still taxes the income from it.

Documents and the timeline that matters

The published visa target is five working days after payment, with a ninety-day period to use an issued visa. Admission triggers the electronic limited-stay and re-entry permissions described on the service page. The longer one-year stay should not be confused with the shorter window to make the first entry.

Preparation may take longer than assessment if employer records, annual income evidence or civil documents are incomplete. Do not submit a decorative business portfolio in place of the contract and bank evidence requested for this index. Check the live portal and the final grant for additional case-specific requirements, especially when the applicant owns the employer or wishes to include family.
