Confirm permitted activities

Describe your work to the immigration authority: employer, clients, where services are delivered and whether Indonesian businesses pay you. Confirm the correct current visa index and whether accompanying family members use linked permissions. Do not rely on a tourism permission merely because work is carried out on a laptop.

Review the first tax year

Gather the planned arrival date, duration, housing arrangements and evidence of intention. Indonesian tax residence can involve more than a day threshold. Prepare an inventory of foreign income, businesses, investments and existing tax obligations before moving. Review treaty and any special foreign-expert treatment against current law; no exemption is assumed here.

Organise implementation

Use official immigration channels to confirm the application, post-arrival and reporting sequence. A second-home applicant may need to report qualifying funds or property evidence, which is a distinct step from visa issuance. Plan local tax registration, banking access, health cover and business licences where relevant. Keep government requirements separate from a service provider’s quoted processing package.

Match the visa index to the employer and intended activity

For E33G, the national page requires a contract with an overseas company and evidence of at least US$60,000 yearly income. Prepare the general passport, recent photograph, CV, itinerary and bank statements as well as the route-specific evidence. A freelancer without the required employer contract should not assume that a remote-work label makes the category fit.

E33 second-home permission has a different commitment: the published state-bank deposit or qualifying apartment route. Understand the post-entry reporting deadline and the obligation to maintain the qualifying value. Government fees, qualifying capital, property transaction costs and advisory fees should appear separately in the budget. The linked programme pages explain the exact sequence and remaining authority-specific clarifications.

Complete the tax analysis before the permit becomes your evidence of intention

PER-23/PJ/2025 lists a visa or stay permit valid for more than 183 days among documents that can evidence intention to reside. A one-year immigration permission can therefore be relevant to the tax analysis from the outset. Inventory worldwide income, investments, controlled companies, trusts and prior tax residence before arriving.

If you continue making strategic decisions for a foreign company, map its management and control under the same regulation. A founder’s remote-working arrangement can affect more than personal income. Do not promise clients that a foreign company or a wallet outside Indonesia avoids local source, domicile or CFC rules. Where a treaty or approved expert relief may apply, obtain the relevant factual and procedural review before relying on it.

Check issuance, entry and post-arrival milestones separately

The national pages distinguish the period in which a visa must be used, the processing target after payment and the stay permission issued on admission. E33G lists five working days after payment, while E33 lists four; neither target includes gathering documents or completing later commitments. Read the issued grant and entry record rather than only the payment receipt.

After arrival, confirm local address and immigration reporting, banking access and any required tax registration. For second-home commitments, keep the bank or apartment evidence and proof of reporting within the required period. Establish a secure record of income and foreign taxes from the first month. Check any additional permission needed before changing from overseas employment to local employment, investment or another activity. An extendable visa is not blanket approval for every future business model.
