Document the change in your life
Review domicile, days, household arrangements and remaining business activity under current residence rules. A second citizenship or a residence card elsewhere is not alone evidence that Turkish residence has ended. Keep the chronology and supporting documents consistent across tax, immigration and banking.
Check investments before unwinding them
Citizenship-by-investment routes can impose a three-year holding restriction. A move abroad does not itself release the investment. Obtain the authority’s confirmation before selling property or withdrawing a deposit, and evaluate the ordinary transaction taxes and currency effects separately.
Handle what continues
Property rents, business profits and other Turkish-source income can require continuing returns. Corporate migration and closure have their own processes; GIB identifies specific timing for returns in some limited-liability departure cases. This draft makes no blanket claim that personal or corporate departure is tax-free. Plan receiving-country entry treatment before disposing of shares or moving management.
Determine which residence connection actually ends
Document the final local work, disposal or retention of the home, family move and expected return visits. The domicile and continuous-stay rules require more than a departure stamp. Obtain destination residence evidence and review the treaty where both countries may claim the same period. A Turkish passport does not mean that every future foreign receipt has the same Turkish treatment.
Identify rental, business and investment income that will continue to arise locally. Decide who prepares returns, receives notices and maintains the records. Nonresident treatment and withholding depend on the income category, so avoid one general instruction to close every account or stop every filing on the date of travel.
Preserve the citizenship investment until its restriction ends
The official investment routes impose holding or retention commitments, including the three-year restriction for qualifying property and deposits. Moving abroad is not a release. Confirm the start and end dates from the actual certificate and title or bank records and obtain written instructions before selling, pledging or withdrawing the qualifying asset.
Once a sale or withdrawal is permitted, consider the normal tax, transaction and currency consequences independently. Property management, insurance, rent collection and banking access may continue while the owner is abroad. Keep the original investment and nationality records so later bank enquiries or passport applications can be answered accurately.
Review management migration and final eligible earnings
A company with its legal centre in Türkiye does not become foreign merely because its owner moves. Where the business centre changes, record the actual transfer of authority, staff and functions and review any local establishment that remains. Corporate liquidation or migration requires its own accounting and tax work; it is not equivalent to a personal change of address.
If the business claims the services deduction, track final eligible earnings and the required transfer to Türkiye by the relevant return deadline. Departure should not disrupt the records or banking needed to complete those conditions. Review foreign holdings and retained profits under the applicable CFC framework. This guide makes no blanket assertion of tax-free departure: identify the individual, company and transaction consequences separately and model the destination’s treatment before arrival.
