Identify the activity first

A remote employee, freelancer, pensioner and locally employed specialist should not automatically apply for the same permission. Confirm the route and consular jurisdiction, then document how your activities meet it. Some permits restrict local employment or require separate work authorisation. Family members need their own eligibility and relationship evidence.

Map the tax calendar

Record planned days in Thailand and the year each overseas income item arose. The Revenue Department’s foreign-income guidance uses 180 days or more in the income year; an older English overview uses imprecise wording. Use the current detailed guidance and law for the actual facts. Income from work performed in Thailand also needs source analysis even if paid overseas.

Make funds traceable

Keep statements identifying pre-arrival savings, investment cost, gains, pension receipts and wages. Model the costs of rent, insurance, education and transfers separately from visa fees. Document the overseas employer’s agreement and consider its corporate exposure. The destination visa can make the move possible, but it does not resolve every consequence for the business paying you.

Apply through the correct mission with route-specific evidence

For DTV, prepare financial evidence meeting the THB500,000 framework requirement and documents supporting the actual remote-work, freelance or qualifying-activity category. The responsible mission can prescribe document format and local-residence evidence. London publishes a normal fifteen-working-day visa process and recommends applying six to eight weeks ahead; extra-document requests can add time. Those are that mission’s timings, not a worldwide DTV guarantee.

LTR instead begins with BOI qualification endorsement and category-specific evidence of assets, income, employer or expertise. Privilege begins with membership eligibility and the company’s checks, followed by immigration formalities. Do not submit a collection of unrelated documents hoping the authority will choose a category for you. The file should tell one accurate and consistent story.

Prepare the money history before arrival

Download records of existing savings, investment acquisition costs, realised gains, pensions and company distributions while access is straightforward. Decide how the household will fund the first year and which transfers represent capital versus income. Keep records of the year in which foreign income arose and of presence during that year.

For someone arriving late in a calendar year, the residence outcome can differ from the next full year, but locally sourced work still needs analysis. Review the employment agreement and obtain the employer’s approval of the location; the employer’s tax or licensing obligations are not solved by the employee obtaining a visa. A founder should review authority over foreign companies before starting to manage them from Thailand.

On arrival, check the actual permission and create a calendar

Read the admitted-until date, permitted activities and extension conditions on the actual immigration record. DTV validity does not replace the limit on each stay. For LTR, keep the endorsement and evidence that will be needed at review; for Privilege, know the membership and visa conditions separately. Family members need their own dates and documents.

Arrange address reporting and other immigration formalities as required for the actual status, then establish banking and tax-record access. Confirm insurance coverage for the activities and locations involved, rather than only obtaining a document acceptable for the visa. Set reminders for passport expiry, immigration steps, tax filing and any investment or employment conditions. We do not publish a universal bank-opening or full-relocation timetable because these dependencies vary materially by applicant.
