What the tax system covers

Resident corporations are taxed on worldwide income under the tax system described by the Global Forum and the ordinary current corporate guidance. Partnerships allocate income to partners rather than automatically using the company rate.

When a company becomes tax resident

A corporation can be resident through incorporation, management and control, or a head office in Dominica. The location of the actual business and management should therefore be assessed before relying on a foreign incorporation.

A company and a self-employed owner do not share one tax treatment

Inland Revenue publishes a 25% corporate rate on net profit and a company return due within three months of the financial-year end. Its guidance also requires instalments. A sole trader instead needs the personal business-income calculation and applicable allowance rather than automatically using the corporate rate.

Local business receipts, foreign investments, employment, rent and distributions should be classified individually. A company incorporated elsewhere can still create local business or management questions when its founder works from Dominica. The company’s form, residence and activities all belong in the review.

Returns, instalments and the accounts

The corporate guidance requires a return within three months after the financial-year end and periodic tax instalments. Build the return from a tax reconciliation of net profit rather than bank inflows alone. The persons maintaining the books, authorising payments and signing the return should be identified when the company starts. A loss year or inactive period should be checked against the filing rules, not treated as permission to ignore a notice.

Foreign companies and income attribution

A current legislative CFC review is not complete; citizenship-programme marketing is not sufficient evidence of the tax regime.

Departure, migration and continuing obligations

No comprehensive current departure-tax review is asserted in this draft.
