City at a glance
Start with the station, river or workplace that anchors your week
Turin offers several distinct daily geographies: the central squares, residential and office streets around Crocetta, the Porta Susa side of the city, the university-oriented areas east of the centre and the river. Decide which of those supports the work and household routine you intend to maintain, rather than choosing from a citywide impression.
If intercity travel or frequent airport use is important, test the door-to-platform route to Porta Susa. If school and a local workplace dominate the week, put those journeys first. The airport’s train connection does not make every Turin address equally convenient; the last part of the trip can determine whether you will actually use public transport.
Turin’s official neighbourhood directory is a useful starting point for a scouting route. Give each shortlisted home the same test: groceries, a daytime work call, the evening return and an ordinary trip with the family. A large room or attractive façade cannot compensate for a routine you find frustrating every day.

What may appeal
- Distinct central, station-oriented and riverside choices.
- An airport rail link to Porta Susa.
- Clear local residence, school and health-service entry points.
What to weigh up
- The wrong side of the city can add friction to regular trips.
- Building heating and summer comfort require inspection.
- School availability and specific administrative timings remain case-dependent.

Select Vendita or Affitto, then the city and neighbourhood. Check whether a rental is a standard home, a temporary let or a room.
Neighbourhoods to compare on the ground
| Area | Why put it on the shortlist | What to test before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Cit Turin and the Porta Susa side | Worth considering for households making regular rail journeys and wanting to investigate a residential/office setting near the station. | Compare the exact station approach with the apartment’s street. Inspect noise, parking and access to the outdoor space your household will use. |
| Crocetta and the approaches to San Paolo/Cenisia | A separate option for comparing residential streets with the work and university locations on this side of the centre. | Check the particular office or campus, not a district-wide reputation. Test public transport and the school route under weekday conditions. |
| Centro and the central squares | A starting point for a walking-based routine with central shops, cafés and cultural places close by. | Ask about delivery access and parking, and inspect the building’s stairs, lift and window insulation. The convenience of a square can come with evening activity. |
| Vanchiglia and the eastern centre | The official tourism directory highlights a university and creative setting around Vanchiglia and neighbouring areas. | Separate a street chosen for social life from a room chosen for sleep or calls. Check the evening sound level and the actual public-transport route. |
| Along the Po and towards the eastern bank | Consider this geography if river walks and outdoor time are priorities rather than occasional weekend activities. | Try the bridge crossing and any uphill part of the school/work journey. A riverside map location does not establish a short trip to Porta Susa or a step-free home. |

Check the practical life of the building and street
Visit on a working day and after dinner. Listen from the bedroom and the intended office with windows both open and closed. Ask about communal rules, deliveries and waste collection. If the apartment has no lift, test the stairs with the reality of groceries, children or a visiting relative in mind.
If you plan to keep a car, identify the actual parking space and verify the route to reach it under the current city rules. Do not assume a landlord’s statement about parking also covers access permissions or the vehicle’s environmental eligibility. Get the answer for the plate and address before relying on it.
For electricity or gas already in service, check the contract-holder change with the supplier and record the meters. A disconnected supply needs a different activation enquiry. Confirm fixed internet at the exact unit, and keep an interim connection if your business cannot tolerate a gap during installation.

Schools & childcare
Use the current school calendar, then confirm the place
Turin’s preschool service publishes a specific 2026–2027 calendar. The main application round was in January–February 2026; late applications follow the published later rounds and do not automatically create an immediate place. For an arrival later in the year, use the current timetable and ask which ranking round your application will enter.
Compulsory-school entry is a separate route. Contact the intended school about the child’s age, previous studies, class placement and language support. Prepare school reports, identity and family documents and health or vaccination information, and ask which translations are necessary. Do not delay a useful initial conversation simply because every document is not yet available.
Before choosing a home around a particular school, confirm the actual offer, hours, after-school arrangements and transport. For a private or international programme, check the curriculum and future transfer implications directly. The presence of an English-language programme in a city is not proof that it covers every age or is open to every applicant.

Healthcare
Choose the health route and a doctor who is available
ASL Città di Torino distinguishes registration for qualifying non-EU permit holders from voluntary registration. Confirm the basis before making a payment, including whether work, family status or recognised cross-border coverage applies. Each dependant needs to be included through the correct route.
The ASL’s GP and paediatrician service explains how to make or change the choice. Availability matters: locating a practice nearby does not mean the doctor can accept another patient. Check the relevant district and the documents needed for the selection, then confirm the arrangement is active.
Bring a medical summary, a list of active medication ingredients and relevant specialist records. Ask about continuity of treatment and how appointments or prescriptions will be arranged. Keep evidence of insurance for any unconfirmed gap, and avoid treating a card expected in the post as the only indicator of whether the administrative registration has been completed.
Airports & international connections
Distinguish Porta Susa, Porta Nuova and the airport journey
Turin Airport publishes a train connection with Porta Susa taking roughly 30 minutes and operating every day. Build the rest of the journey around the correct station. A home selected for Porta Nuova is not automatically alongside that direct airport rail departure.
The airport also lists bus connections serving Porta Nuova and Porta Susa. Compare the relevant live timetable, not a single average duration, especially for early flights or a late return. Allow for walking, luggage, waiting and airport processing separately from the advertised vehicle journey.
For daily travel, GTT’s network includes the metro and surface routes. Use its current line and service notices before committing to a journey that depends on a particular timetable. Test an alternative for a lift outage, disruption or a late evening. A short walk to one line is useful only if the line takes you where you repeatedly need to go.

Climate & environment
Compare a full year of housing rather than a monthly headline
Ask for the draft lease, the identity and authority of the counterparty and a complete charge schedule. Separate rent from building expenses, heating, hot water, electricity, connectivity and any parking arrangement. Find out what is fixed, what is an advance subject to reconciliation and which services you must contract for directly.
Italian leases generally require registration within 30 days of signature or earlier commencement. Establish who is responsible for filing and keep the registration evidence. Confirm the documentation needed to demonstrate lawful occupation for the household’s residence application.
Turin’s Lo.C.A.Re is a municipal housing-intermediation resource within the city’s housing strategy. Its existence does not mean a newly arrived owner or investor qualifies for a supported tenancy. If considering a canone concordato or assistance route, confirm the current scheme, conditions and available property directly.
For an older apartment, inspect the windows, heating controls, water pressure and electrical outlets where the workspace will go. Clarify which furniture and appliances remain. Agree the handover inventory, photograph condition and obtain a practical repair contact before moving in.
Inspect for both heat and colder weather
ARPA Piemonte’s climate material distinguishes observed conditions from future heat scenarios. The Turin presentation includes both the city’s temperature record and projected changes in heat waves; those projections are not a forecast for a particular arrival date. Use the authority’s current observations and warnings alongside the longer-term information, and do not treat a regional average as the conditions inside a city apartment.
For summer, inspect shading, ventilation, cooling capacity and bedroom exposure. For winter, ask about insulation, heating maintenance, the building’s control arrangements and previous consumption. A photograph of snowy mountains behind the city is not a substitute for understanding the home’s actual comfort and bills.
If outdoor exercise is important, plan a route you will use from the address rather than counting every park on a city map. Check current local weather and environmental information when planning strenuous activity. Keep a practical indoor alternative for days when conditions or work schedules make the preferred routine unattractive.
Public services & practical setup
Follow Turin’s residence checklist for your own status
Turin has a residence service for arrivals from another municipality or abroad and a current document checklist. The evidence varies by nationality and basis of residence. An EU self-employed person, for example, may need business-registration evidence rather than the documents relevant to an employee. Start from the correct category.
Keep identity documents, tax codes and the evidence of lawful occupation aligned across the household. For a non-EU application, identify the permit or other evidence that the office accepts at your stage. Do not assume a visa, application receipt and issued residence permit are interchangeable in every procedure.
Complete the declaration accurately, retain the submission confirmation and remain available for follow-up. The city’s process does not replace the wider immigration or tax analysis. In particular, an address declaration should reflect where you actually live; it is not an administrative substitute for a substantive move.
What residents say
These are attributed public experiences, not client testimonials. Housing, neighbourhood and household circumstances affect the experience.
Planning your move
Make the business and household move one project
If Turin will be the place from which you direct an existing business, map the practical consequences before the move: management, employment or contracting, social insurance, tax residence and banking. The country guides provide the detailed framework. A permit application and a company’s registration address answer only part of the problem.
We can help coordinate those decisions with implementation and the household arrival sequence. Bring the real facts: where decisions will be made, which people are relocating, the contracts in place and the intended timeline. That makes it possible to align the structure with the daily life you actually intend to establish.
Your move, step by step
Follow the dependencies, not a promised completion date. Official deadlines are labelled; housing, school places and appointment availability remain case-specific.
01Choose the route and the journeys that matterBefore the long-term housing search
02Check the property, contract and total chargesBefore paying or arranging the removal
03Submit the appropriate residence applicationWhen the address and required status evidence are ready
Use Turin’s current checklist for your nationality and residence category. Keep confirmation and respond to requests; complete immigration procedures separately where necessary.

- Identity and tax codes
- Occupancy evidence
- Relevant work, family or permit documents
- Do not substitute a document from one immigration stage without checking that the municipal office accepts it.
04Complete health and school enrolmentAccording to each service’s eligibility and intake process
Confirm the health basis, doctor availability and the children’s placement and language needs. For preschool, use the current late-application timetable if the main round has passed.
Documents & evidence
- Health-entitlement and family documents
- School reports
- Medical and vaccination records
05Close the operational gapsAt handover and during the first regular working weeks

- Rob at Vivo Torino — Cit Turin, 23 March 2022

Rob, the writer of Vivo Torino who describes living in Turin since 2014, wrote in March 2022 that Cit Turin’s Porta Susa access and neighbourhood commerce appealed to him, while parking and the amount of green space were drawbacks. He described the area as a frequent visitor and potential resident. We use those tradeoffs as scouting prompts, not his dated property prices or a current market assessment.
Attributed personal experience, not a representative survey, verified client testimonial or safety ranking. Publication age and the writer’s stated relationship to the area matter; current prices and availability are checked separately.
