Different routes require different evidence

The Citizenship Office describes ordinary routes including naturalisation, entitlement, marriage-related applications and regain, alongside investment or contribution programmes. The applicable form and statutory basis matter. A person with a family connection should establish that history before assuming the only option is an investment programme.

Ordinary nationality applications

The Citizenship Office’s published ordinary process identifies Form A for a continuous ten-year residence history, Form B for the qualifying marriage and two-year residence route, and Form C for entitlement or regain. The page also describes historical investment programmes, so obtain the current form and confirmation for the selected route rather than applying every statement on that page to today’s DSP.

Investment applications

Use the authorised current programme and government-prescribed contribution and fee framework. Background checks, source of funds and family eligibility are essential workstreams, not formalities. No verified 2026 universal minimum or guaranteed short processing period is quoted in this draft. The separate programme page explains what must be confirmed before proceeding.

Compare the rights that remain

Vanuatu lost its EU visa exemption, and UK visits also require a visa under the current cited rules. Old marketing material can therefore overstate the passport’s usefulness. Evaluate the countries the family actually visits, residence rights, existing nationality and bank disclosures. Citizenship does not automatically establish Vanuatu tax residence or remove reporting elsewhere.

Family history can change which application is appropriate

The Office describes entitlement through a parent or grandparent of Ni-Vanuatu ancestry or the relevant naturalisation connection. The timing matters: its guidance distinguishes a child born after a parent’s naturalisation from a child born beforehand who was not included in that application. Assemble the birth and nationality records before deciding that a contribution programme is the only route.

A marriage-related case needs the genuine legal marriage and qualifying residence evidence; a marriage certificate alone is not the complete application. Applications for children under eighteen require the responsible parent or lawful guardian. Reconcile names and relationships across civil records and identify missing certificates early. The older public process page is useful for distinguishing pathways but cannot support a promise that every historical form or fee is unchanged in 2026.

Ordinary-route assessment and investment due diligence differ

For its ordinary Form A and Form B procedure, the Office describes document checks, a Bislama knowledge test, internal screening and Commission consideration, followed by the instructed oath, final fees and certificate. The page’s stated test and oath arrangements should not be transferred indiscriminately to a current investment programme with different regulations. Obtain the current written route instructions, including presence and identity requirements.

For an investment or contribution case, verify the designated agent, government-approved price, family eligibility, source-of-funds evidence and payment stages before engagement. Distinguish a non-refundable contribution from recoverable investment capital. The public material reviewed does not establish a universal 2026 price or guaranteed decision period. Finally, assess the benefits using current access: Schengen and UK visits require visas under the cited changes. Citizenship is also distinct from actual residence and cannot by itself end tax or reporting obligations in the country where the person continues living.
